Kansas agriculture supports youth, people in need

Anyone who’s ever watched the Grand Drive of the Kansas State Fair youth livestock show knows that it puts smiles on a lot of young faces but few are aware that it also puts food on the table for Kansans in need.

Each year, a group of volunteers raises funds to provide premium money for exhibitors of livestock champions at the Kansas State Fair. And after all the trophies and ribbons have been awarded, though, the meat from the champion market animals is donated to folks facing tough economic times.
